I am a Hampton Roads criminal defense attorney with more than 15 years inside Virginia’s criminal justice system. Before co‑founding Fellers Law, I spent over a decade as a prosecutor, trying everything from DUI toxicology and white‑collar fraud to first‑degree murder, and I successfully argued before the Supreme Court of Virginia. I know how cases are built, charged, and attacked—because I’ve done it from the inside. Now I use that experience for one purpose: to fight for my clients with precision, confidence, and relentless preparation.
My approach to the law was forged at the Virginia Military Institute, where I was a Division‑I track athlete and earned my degree in History. VMI doesn’t reward shortcuts—and neither do I. When pressure spikes, I don’t fold; I dig deeper, prepare harder, and find a path forward. That’s how I practice criminal defense. If the case looks unwinnable or my client’s back is against the wall, I don’t give up—I work the problem until we create leverage.
Before entering the legal field, I sharpened my professional grit as a Senior Specialist with VDOT, gaining early experience in high‑pressure problem‑solving and statewide operations. I went on to earn my law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law, where I distinguished myself through my work with the Innocence Project. There, I helped investigate claims of wrongful conviction — an experience that grounded me in the importance of accuracy, fairness, and the real‑world impact of the justice system. I also gained valuable corporate and organizational insight through an in‑house counsel internship with Southern States Cooperative. These experiences, balancing the pursuit of justice with the demands of complex legal environments, laid the foundation for a career defined by depth, integrity, and exceptional courtroom skill.
I’m meticulous by design. I’m the lawyer who reads the opinions others skim, tracks every new Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia decision, and hunts for the small, decisive details that tip outcomes. My confidence in court isn’t theater—it’s built on exhaustive research, command of the record, and mastery of Virginia law. I’m authoritative and aggressive in the courtroom, and my arguments are backed by the homework to win them.
As a defense attorney, I’ve secured not‑guilty verdicts in high‑profile cases—including a double homicide, second‑degree murder, and felony sexual assault—and I’ve mitigated and negotiated sentences that took years off clients’ exposure and projected outcomes. Those results come from relentless preparation, sharp motion practice, and refusing to quit on the hard cases.
My path started as a prosecutor—first with the Harrisonburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, then more than a decade at the Chesapeake Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, where I rose to senior prosecutor and tried thousands of cases. I believed in fighting for justice then, and I still do. It took time before I moved to defense—but when I did, I learned something important: criminal defense is justice at its most personal. It’s one person, one future. For the past four years, I’ve thrived as a defense attorney because I treat every case like it’s the only one that matters.
Clients describe me as “The GOAT,” “the best,” “well‑respected,” and the lawyer who “had my back” and “fought the fight.” I don’t take that lightly. When someone trusts me with their freedom, I treat it like my own. I show up prepared, I push hard, and I don’t back down.
I co‑founded Fellers Law with my wife, Kristin, to build a firm that values preparation over posturing and strategy over shortcuts. We designed a defense practice that out‑prepares, out‑thinks, and out‑fights the opposition—case after case.
Today, I defend clients across Hampton Roads—Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News, and Hampton—from serious felonies to complex appeals, firearm rights, and military/court‑martial matters. My promise is straightforward: prepare exhaustively, fight intelligently, and pursue the best possible outcome—without blinking.
Outside the courtroom, I’m a lifelong Washington Redskins/Commanders fan, happiest at the beach with my wife, our two kids, and our dog. I’m an Eagle Scout, a Cub Scout leader, and an active member of Trinity Church, committed to mentoring the next generation with the same discipline and integrity that define my practice.
